Track and Field wins three events on final day of Texas Relays

Longhorns sweep short hurdles with personal bests in front of home crowd.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas closed out the fourth and final day of the 97th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truist with three event wins.
Sophomore Akala Garrett recorded a massive personal best after posting a barely wind-aided time of 12.75 in the 100-meter hurdles. Leading into the final, Garrett's personal best was 13.23. Garrett closed the weekend as a two-time Texas Relays champion after winning the 400-meter hurdles invitational in 55.49.
Junior Kendrick Smallwood also recorded a big personal best in the 110-meter hurdles at 13.07w. Smallwood also broke the program record in the prelims with a wind-legal time of 13.35.
Sophomore Nina Ndubuisi recorded the third and final event win for Texas after throwing 18.03m (59-2) in the women's shot put. The throw is the sixth-best throw in UT history. Senior Chrystal Herpin was third with her throw of 17.52m (57-5.75). Michael Piñones finished fifth in the men's side with a sixth-round throw of 18.47m (60-7.25).
Meredith Adams was just off her personal best in the women's discus after finishing seventh in the B event.
Back on the track, the women's 4x800-meter relay of Mackenize Browne, Grace Kowalski, Amity Ebarb and Kyra Pretre finished third with a time of 8:47.13.
The men's 4x100-meter team of Smallwood, Logan Popelka, Xavier Butler and Almond Small were third overall finishing with a time of 39.44. On the women's side, Carleta Bernard, Holly Okuku, Kenondra Davis and Nita Koom-Dadzie were also third with a time of 43.43.
Texas later saw Isaac Alonzo finish as the runner-up in the Jerry Thompson Mile with his time of 4:04.36. Logan Patete was eighth with a time of 4:20.
