Texas looks for first series win over Oklahoma in Norman since the 2006 season
NORMAN, Okla. – Having opened its four-game slate in Oklahoma with a non-conference win at Oklahoma State on Wednesday night, The University of Texas softball program will now look to add wins over the Oklahoma Sooners during a three-game SEC series that begins on Friday, April 25.
GAME SCHEDULE:
- Friday, April 25 – 5 p.m. CT (ESPNU)
- Saturday, April 26 – 11 a.m. CT (ESPN2)
- Sunday, April 27 – 1 p.m. CT (ESPN2)
TELEVISION: Beth Mowins, Michele Smith and Jessica Mendoza will be on the call for all three nationally televised broadcast over the weekend.
RADIO: Andrew Haynes can be heard with the radio call of each of the weekend's three games at https://texas.leanplayer.com/.
SERIES HISTORY:
- This weekend, Texas will be looking for its first series win over Oklahoma in Norman since the 2006 season, when then-senior Cat Osterman led the Longhorns to 9-4 and 2-0 wins, respectively, on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15.
- During the April 14th game, Osterman became the first Texas softball student-athlete to surpass 1,000 career innings pitched.
- The following day on April 15th, Osterman returned to the pitching circle to throw her 20th career no-hitter and was a hit batter shy of a perfect game.
- Osterman's no-hitter was the second time a Longhorn pitcher did not allow a hit to an Oklahoma squad after Christa Williams did not surrender a hit throughout an eight-inning, 1-0 Texas win on April 18, 1999.
- Osterman's no-hitter is the only time a Texas pitcher has thrown a no-hitter against Oklahoma in Norman.
- Osterman's no-hitter was the second time a Longhorn pitcher did not allow a hit to an Oklahoma squad after Christa Williams did not surrender a hit throughout an eight-inning, 1-0 Texas win on April 18, 1999.
- Texas will be looking for its first win against Oklahoma in Norman since April 18, 2014, when the Longhorns won, 9-0, in six innings.
- The game remains the last time the Longhorns have earned a run-rule victory over the Sooners.
- 2005 was the last time Texas won three consecutive games against the Sooners within the state of Oklahoma:
- May 13, 2005 – W, 3-1, Oklahoma City
- April 14, 2006 – W, 9-4, Norman
- April 15, 2006 – W, 2-0, Norman
- Texas has never won three consecutive games over Oklahoma in Norman throughout the program's history.
LEADING OFF:
- A win for Texas this weekend would mark the first victory for seventh-year head coach Mike White against Oklahoma in Norman since taking over at the helm of the Longhorn softball program prior to the 2019 season.
- With five RBI over the course of the three-game series, third-year Longhorn Reese Atwood will become the first Texas softball student-athlete to surpass 200 career RBI.
- Atwood would become just the fifth active Division I softball student-athlete with 200-or-more career RBI.
- Florida's Reagan Walsh, 216
- Texas A&M's Mac Barbara, 208
- Baylor's Shaylon Govan, 207
- Arkansas' Bri Ellis, 205
- Even if UNLV's Ariana Martinez (196) reaches the milestone before Atwood (195), Atwood would reach the 200-career RBI milestone quicker than Walsh, Barbara, Govan, Ellis or Martinez.
- Atwood would become just the fifth active Division I softball student-athlete with 200-or-more career RBI.
- If Texas scores at least one run in Friday's contest, it will mark the second time in program history the Longhorns have scored at least one run in 80 consecutive games.
- A run in all three games would move the streak to 82 consecutive games, which would be one shy of tying the program record for consecutive games (83) scoring at least one run set from April 24, 2022 to May 27, 2023.
- If Reese Atwood drives in five runs before Katie Stewart drives in four, Atwood will hold the top two spots on the program's single-season RBI list.
- 90, Reese Atwood (2024)
- 66, Lindsey Stephens (2014)
- 66, Taylor Thom (2013)
- 63, Katie Stewart (2025)
- 62, Reese Atwood (2025)
