Atwood intentionally walks No. 3/4 Softball one win away from title

Teagan Kavan ties Cat Osterman’s program record for most career wins at Women’s College World Series
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – In a 2-hour, 7-minute classic that featured two of the best pitchers in all of Division I softball, it was Texas' two-time All-American Reese Atwood swinging at a 3-0 pitch nearly eye-leveled that provided the difference in the Longhorns' 2-1 win over Texas Tech in the first game of the Women's College World Series Championship Series on Wednesday night.
While Texas Tech was looking to take a 1-0 lead into the top of the seventh, Red Raider ace pitcher NiJaree Canady (33-6) was looking for the final out after striking out the first two Longhorns to open the frame.
And then Kayden Henry singled a 1-2 pitch into left field.
Representing the game-tying run, Henry stole second on the first pitch of Mia Scott's ensuring at bat.
Two pitches later, Scott blooped an 0-2 change-up over the head of Canady in the circle and into no-man's land for a two-out, infield single.
With second base open – after Henry advanced to third on the single – Scott swiped it on the first pitch as Texas Tech was attempting to intentionally walk Reese Atwood.
Atwood, after seeing two more "pitch out" pitches not go far enough out of the strike zone for her to relax at the plate, swung at a 3-0 pitch and drove in both Henry and Scott with a two-out single through the left side of the diamond and give Texas a 2-1 advantage.
Looking to put the finishing touches on her team-high 17th complete game of the season, Teagan Kavan (27-5) worked around a leadoff fielding error – to start the top of the seventh – by retiring the next three Red Raiders on just 11 pitches.
