AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Football has been ranked No. 1 in the preseason Coaches Poll for the first time in program history, USA Today released on Monday.
The Longhorns received 28 first-place votes from the 67 panelists and led with 1,606 total points. It marks the ninth-straight season in which Texas has been ranked in the preseason Coaches Poll and the 12th time in the last 15 seasons. It's the 35th time Texas has checked in with a preseason top-five ranking. Ohio State received 20 first-place votes, with Penn State (14), Georgia (3) and Clemson (2) also being picked as the preseason No. 1.
Last season, Texas earned its highest preseason ranking since 2009 after being ranked No. 4 in the Coaches Poll. UT concluded the 2024 season with a 13-3 overall record, its second-consecutive CFP semifinal appearance and a No. 3 final ranking in the Coaches Poll.
The Longhorns' 2025 schedule features six true home games, one neutral site game in Dallas, and five road games. Texas will face four teams ranked inside the preseason Coaches Poll, including two top-four matchups at No. 2 Ohio State and No. 4 Georgia. Those go along with contests against No. 17 Florida and No. 21 Texas A&M, and an additional three games against teams receiving votes, including the first team outside of the poll in Oklahoma, plus Arkansas and Vanderbilt.
Texas kicks off the 2025 season on the road at No. 2 Ohio State at 11 a.m. CT Saturday, Aug. 30, inside Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. The game will broadcast as part of FOX's Big Noon Kickoff, and ESPN's College GameDay will broadcast live from the Ohio State University campus. College GameDay will air for three hours from 8-11 a.m. CT, hosted by Rece Davis, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, Pat McAffee, Nick Saban, Kirk Herbstreit and other ESPN personalities. It will be the final show for longtime ESPN personality Lee Corso as he is set to retire following Week 1 of the 2025 season.
