No. 2 Volleyball's Spears named SEC Player and Freshman of the Week

Cari Spears earns second SEC Freshman of the Week award.
AUSTIN, Texas – Freshman Cari Spears of No. 2 Texas Volleyball was named the SEC Player of the Week and the SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Spears has led Texas to a 6-0 start to the season that includes five ranked wins over No. 12 Creighton, No. 8 Wisconsin, No. 6 Stanford, No. 4 Louisville and No. 9 Arizona State.
The Frisco, Texas native traveled to Fort Worth and showed out against the Cardinal with a then-career high 16 kills and a career high five blocks. She added a new career high with 18 and hit .382 against the Sun Devils after recording nine in the second set alone.
Over two matches, she earned 4.25 kills per set and averaged a .306 attack percentage. Texas is now the only undefeated team with five ranked wins this season.
Monday's award marks the second time Spears earned the SEC Freshman of the Week award and first overall player of the week award. Texas has now won the overall player of the week three times with Emma Halter earning the award after week one and Torrey Stafford claiming the title last week.
