No. 2 Men’s Tennis falls to No. 5 Virginia, 4-1

The Longhorns had a path in the last four singles matches, but the Cavaliers prevailed in Austin on Sunday.
Austin – No. 2 Texas Men's Tennis dropped their first match of the season in a 4-1 decision to No. 5 Virginia at the Texas Tennis Center on Sunday.
The Longhorns, who were missing three members of their singles lineup, still had a path in the last four singles matches, but the Cavaliers prevailed with wins in two of them.
Virginia took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 1 before taking the first singles match at No. 3. Freshman Abel Forger pulled Texas within 2-1 with a win at No. 2, but the Cavaliers took a three-set contest at No. 1 and won a second-set tiebreaker at No. 4 to clinch the match.
Texas captured the first match of the day with a 6-1 victory at doubles No. 3 by senior Jonah Braswell and junior Lucas Brown over Andres Santamarta Roig and Douglas Yaffa. Virginia then answered with a 6-3 win by Dylan Dietrich and Stiles Brockett over senior Sebastian Gorzny and freshman Lucas Marionneau at No. 2. The Cavaliers then clinched doubles with a 6-4 decision by Mans Dahlberg and Jangjun Kim over freshmen Kalin Ivanovski and Abel Forger at No. 1.
In singles, Kim made it a 2-0 lead for Virginia with a 6-1, 6-3 win over sophomore Sebastian Eriksson at No. 3 before Forger put together an impressive 6-3, 6-0 win over Andres Santamarta Roig at No. 2 to cut it to a 2-1 deficit.
Gorzny had taken a set lead over Dietrich at No. 1, however Dietrich was able to respond with a pair of 6-3 sets to get the overall lead back to two at 3-1. Viriginia then clinched after Dahlberg rallied from 5-2 down in a second-set tiebreaker for a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win over Marionneau.
The Longhorns turn around quickly to host another top-five opponent in No. 1 Wake Forest on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center.

Second Set Tiebreaker: Braswell won the first two points but Brockett later used a 3-0 run for his own 4-3 lead, which he maintained until winning consecutive points for the set.
Singles No. 6: Dedura-Palomero (TEX) vs. Yaffa (VA) 4-6, 6-4, 3-1, unf.
First Set: Yaffa won the set on a deuce-point hold that would have evened it for Dedura-Palomero.
