Longhorns now lead all-time series over Sooners, 65-52-5
DALLAS — In the 122nd installment of the Allstate Red River Rivalry, No. 1/1 Texas fell to Oklahoma, 27-24, in front of 92,100 fans at the Cotton Bowl Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Kicker Tate Sandell nailed a 47-yard game-winning field goal as time expired, lifting the Sooners (3-2, 1-1 SEC) to their first victory over the AP's No. 1-ranked team since 2007.
The Longhorns (4-1, 1-1 SEC) now lead the all-time series, 65-52-5.
Texas' defense limited Oklahoma to 238 yards, including 83 yards on the ground, but the Sooners mounted both a special teams score and a defensive touchdown to prevail.
Prior to Lloyd Avant's 2-yard scoring run in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter, the Longhorns held Oklahoma without an offensive touchdown on 32 consecutive drives, dating back to the 2024 campaign.
Texas totaled nine tackles for loss, led by Colin Simmons and Rasheem Biles. Simmons recorded three tackles for loss, highlighted by a pair of sacks and a forced fumble. Biles delivered a game-high 12 tackles, including two tackles for loss.
After Oklahoma took a 24-17 advantage in the fourth quarter, Arch Manning orchestrated a 7-play, 75-yard scoring drive to even the contest with 6:32 remaining.
Manning capped off the possession by finding Jermaine Bishop Jr. for his first career touchdown reception.
The senior signal caller finished with 260 passing yards and three touchdowns. Manning also connected with Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo on a pair of scores in the first half.
Coleman's 41-yard touchdown put the Longhorns in front, 7-0, midway through the opening quarter. The junior tallied five catches for 110 yards, eclipsing the century mark for the first time in burnt orange.
Meanwhile, Wingo's 34-yard scoring hookup with Manning vaulted the Longhorns ahead, 14-7 in the second quarter.
Gianni Spetic converted a 23-yard field goal with 12 seconds left before the break to push the halftime advantage to double-digits. With the chip shot, Spetic became the first Texas kicker to start a season 8-for-8 on field goals since Hunter Lawrence in 2008.
Following their first loss of the season, the Longhorns open a three-game homestand beginning with No. 16/15 Florida on Oct. 17. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
