Men's Basketball earns 85-68 win at Missouri

Swain records a game-high 25 points and Vokietaitis adds a double-double in Saturday’s impressive road win.
COLUMBIA, Mo. — Junior guard/forward Dailyn Swain scored 18 of his game-high 25 points in the second half, while sophomore center Matas Vokietaitis added a double-double with 19 points and a game-high 10 rebounds to lead Texas (16-9, 7-5 SEC) to an 85-68 victory over Missouri (17-8, 7-5 SEC) on Saturday night in Mizzou Arena. This marked UT's fourth consecutive league win, marking the first time since the 2020-21 season that the Longhorns have recorded four consecutive regular-season conference victories.
Swain converted 9-of-16 field goals, including 3-of-6 free throws, and 4-of-4 free throws while adding six rebounds, two assists and two steals in 37 minutes. Vokietaitis hit 6-of-10 field goals and 7-of-8 free throws and grabbed five of his 10 rebounds on the offensive glass while posting two blocked shots in 25 minutes. Senior Jordan Pope tallied 15 points (2-5 threes, 3-4 FT) in 26 minutes.
The Longhorns dominated the second half, recording a 52-37 scoring margin over the final 20 minutes. Texas converted 61.5 (16-26) from the floor, including a 4-of-8 (.500) mark from three-point range, and 16-of-17 (.941) free throws in the second half. The Longhorns limited Missouri to 38.1-percent (8-21) from the floor, including a 1-of-5 (.200) mark from three-point range, during the final 20 minutes. Texas also posted a plus-10 (36-26) rebound margin during the victory, including a 14-8 edge on the offensive glass.
A back-and-forth first half featured 10 lead changes and seven ties, and neither team led by more than five points. After a Vokietaitis layup gave the Longhorns a 4-2 edge at the 17:52 mark, Missouri responded with a 10-3 spurt over the next four minutes to build a 12-7 cushion following a Nicholas Randall free throw with 13:45 remaining. Texas answered by scoring the next five points to even the score at 12-12 after another Vokietaitis layup at the 11:00 mark.
The Tigers grabbed an 18-14 advantage following a T.O. Barrett free throw with 8:24 left, before Texas used a 5-0 run to take a 19-18 lead after a Nic Codie three-point play at the 7:00 mark. Anthony Robinson II knocked down a three-pointer to give Missouri a 31-30 cushion with 1:35 remaining, before Tramon Mark converted a three-point play with 1.9 seconds left to put the Longhorns in front 33-31 at the break.
The Tigers evened the score at 37-37 following a Jayden Stone three-point play at the 16:43 mark. A Randall tip-in dunk tied the contest at 41-41 with 14:39 remaining, before Texas scored five straight points to build a 46-41 advantage after a pair of Pope free throws at the 13:07 mark. A pair of Robinson II free throws pulled Missouri to within 48-45 with 12:43 left, before the Longhorns went on an 11-3 run over the next three-and-a-half minutes to increase their cushion to 59-48 after a pair of Simeon Wilcher free throws at the 9:09 mark.
The Tigers trimmed the deficit to 59-52 following a pair of Trent Pierce free throws with 9:05 left, before Texas responded with an 8-3 spurt over the next two minutes to grab a 67-55 lead after a Swain three-pointer at the 7:05 mark. Missouri cut the margin to nine points (75-66) following a Robinson II three-point play with 4:00 remaining. That was as close as the Tigers would get the rest of the way, as the Longhorns closed the game on a 10-2 run.
Texas is back on the court when it hosts LSU on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Tip is scheduled for 8 p.m. Central in Moody Center, and the game will be televised nationally by SEC Network.
