Longhorns record first win of the season against No. 16 Hawai'i.
HONOLULU – No. 6 Texas Beach Volleyball split its 2026 season opener Thursday at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic at Queen's Beach, falling to No. 2 UCLA before earning a 3-2 win over No. 16 Hawai'i
UCLA claimed the opening point with a 21-19, 21-18 victory over Brecht Piersma and Katie Hashman on Court 1. Texas pushed two other matches to three sets, as Anna Pavelkova and Kacka Pavelkova on Court 2 and Macey Butler and Noa Sonneville on Court 5 each forced a decisive set. Both pairs fell in the third as the Bruins secured the dual.
Texas responded with its first victory of the season, defeating Hawai'i 3-2. The Longhorns built a 2-0 lead behind a 21-9, 21-16 win from Piersma and Hashman on Court 1 and a 21-17, 21-12 victory by Emma Grace Robertson and Savannah Thomas on Court 3. Butler and Sonneville clinched the match on Court 5 to seal the win.
The Longhorns return to action Friday, Feb. 20 at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic, facing No. 9 Cal at 12:30 p.m. CT and No. 7 LMU at 8 p.m. CT.
