No. 3 Baseball’s Tinney, Burns earn Baseball America preseason All-America honors

Burns collects first career preseason All-America distinction
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas juniors Carson Tinney and Thomas Burns were named to the preseason All-America Third Team, Baseball America announced Tuesday morning.
Earlier this offseason, Tinney also garnered second-team recognition from Perfect Game and third-team distinction from D1Baseball. Meanwhile, for Burns, this marks his first career preseason All-America nod.
Baseball America's preseason All-America teams are voted on and selected by MLB scouting departments.

A 2025 consensus All-American, Tinney led all Power Four hitters in WRC+ (179) and wOBA (.535), while notching the third-highest OPS (1.251).
During his sophomore season at Notre Dame, Tinney paced the Irish in 10 offensive categories, headlined by his .348 average, 17 home runs, .498 on-base percentage and .753 slugging.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound backstop was tabbed the NCBWA District 5 Player of the Year and finished as one of three finalists for the prestigious Buster Posey Award.
Among all Texas pitchers (min. 25 inn.) a year ago, Burns posted a team-best 13.5 K/9. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound right-hander struck out 40 batters over 26 2/3 frames, limiting opposing hitters to a .185 average.
In his debut campaign on The Forty Acres, Burns recorded a 1-2 mark with a 3.71 ERA and four saves across 19 appearances.
The Longhorns open their 2026 slate against UC Davis on Feb. 13. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
