Three Longhorn divers secured bids to the NCAA Championships on the final day of the NCAA Zone D Championships.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Three Longhorn divers secured NCAA Championships qualification on the final day of the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships as Bayleigh Cranford captured the women's platform title while Sarah Carruthers and Jacob Jones each earned qualifying spots on the event. Carruthers finished eighth with a score of 509.40 while Jones posted a 661.80 total on the men's side to secure his bid. Texas concluded the meet atop the overall team standings with 154 points, including a first-place finish in the men's standings with 76 points and a runner-up finish on the women's side with 78 points.
Sophomore Jacob Jones secured an NCAA Championships qualifying spot on platform after finishing with a combined score of 661.80. Jones carried a preliminary score of 336.60 into the finals before adding 325.20 points in the evening session. His performance included a 59.20-point Back 2 1/2 Somersault with 1 1/2 Twists Pike and a 58.50-point Back 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck.
Junior Bayleigh Cranford captured the platform title with a first-place finish and a combined score of 668.55 to secure her NCAA Championships qualifying spot on the event. Cranford carried a preliminary score of 342.55 into the finals before adding 326.00 points in the evening session. Her performance was highlighted by a 75.90-point Back 3 1/2 Somersault Tuck and a 73.60-point Back 2 1/2 Somersault with 1 1/2 Twists Pike.
Senior Sarah Carruthers placed eighth overall on platform with a combined score of 509.40 to secure her NCAA Championships qualifying spot on the event. Carruthers carried a preliminary score of 281.90 into the finals before adding 227.50 points in the evening session. Her performance included a 57.60-point Inward 3 1/2 Somersault Tuck and a 54.45-point Back 1 1/2 Somersault with 3 1/2 Twists Free.
