Longhorns advance to fifth Elite Eight in the last six seasons.
FORT WORTH, Texas – the No. 3 Texas women's basketball team improved to 34-3 this season with a decisive 76-54 victory over No. 16 Kentucky on Saturday at Dickies Arena in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Three Longhorns scored in double figures, led by Jordan Lee's game-high 18 points, along with two rebounds and three assists. Madison Booker contributed 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Rori Harmon added 11 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. The Longhorns shot at least 50 percent (34-of-63) for the 18th time this season.
After Kentucky struck first with a three-pointer from Amelia Hassett, Texas answered with a dominant 15-0 run and built an 18-point lead by the end of the first quarter. Lee and Kyla Oldacre combined for 14 points in the opening period. In the second quarter, Harmon and Lee led the team with five points each. The Longhorns outscored Kentucky 28-14 in paint points during the first half and held a commanding 22-point lead at the intermission.
Booker led Texas in the second half with nine points, five rebounds and three assists as both teams scored 28 points over the final two quarters.
Texas capitalized on Kentucky's mistakes, scoring 26 points off 24 turnovers and finished with a 44-22 advantage in points the paint.
Up next, the Longhorns will face No. 2 seed Michigan in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament on Monday, March 30 at 6:00 PM CT on ESPN.
