Soccer’s Tate, Villarreal land on MAC Hermann Trophy midfielders to watch list

Texas is lone SEC program with multiple honorees
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Longhorns standouts Hannah Tate and Amalia Villarreal were recognized as MAC Hermann Trophy midfielders to watch, the United Soccer Coaches and the Intercollegiate Women's Soccer Organization for Coaches announced Friday afternoon.
Texas is the lone Southeastern Conference program with multiple honorees.
A native of Omaha, Neb., Tate spent the past four seasons at Denver. The 2025 Summit League Midfielder of the Year has played in 43 career contests, making 37 starts. The 5-foot-9 standout has posted five goals and two assists over 3,034 minutes. Tate was also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region First Team.
A two-time All-SEC Second Team selection, Villarreal enters her third season on The Forty Acres. The Lansing, Mich., native has totaled 20 goals, 10 assists and 50 points in 43 matches. Last year, she ranked seventh in goals per game (0.47) in the league, finishing with eight tallies. Villarreal garnered United Soccer All-Southeast Region Third Team distinction for the second straight campaign.
The Longhorns begins their first season under head coach Margueritte Bates against HCU at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
