Men’s Cross Country’s Torres wins Texas A&M Invitational

Aidan Torres earns his second straight individual victory as the Longhorn men finish second and the women place seventh.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Men's Cross Country's Aidan Torres won the men's 8K at the Texas A&M Invitational on Friday morning at Watts Cross Country Course, earning his second consecutive individual victory as Texas finished second in the men's team standings. The Longhorn women placed seventh in the 5k.
Torres covered the 8K course in 23:53.1, following his victory at last week's Floyd Farms Invitational. Freshman Kai McCullough finished fourth in 24:18.6, while Joaquin De La Cruz placed 12th in a personal-best 24:37.5. Hudson Bennett was 16th in 24:52.1, followed by Zain Hamdani in 22nd at a personal-best 25:06.6 and Griffen Saacke in 33rd at 25:21.3.
Texas scored 58 points to finish second behind Stephen F. Austin, which totaled 39 points. TCU placed third with 72 points, followed by Houston with 81 and Texas A&M with 129.
In the women's 5K, Aishling Callanan led the Longhorns in 26th place at 18:10.9. Lili Denton finished 30th in 18:21.0, followed by Emma Rodriguez-Wade in 34th at 18:25.3 and Cara Sims in 40th at 18:29.5. Grace Kowalski placed 47th in 18:43.4, while Gia Kurp was 58th in 19:04.2 and Isabel Conde De Frankenberg finished 61st in 19:07.2. McKale Lee placed 80th in 19:34.9 in her first race of the season.
Texas scored 166 points to finish seventh, while SMU won the team competition with 21 points.
The Longhorns return to action Sept. 25 at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Missouri.
