Four Longhorns games over the next two seasons are moving up on the schedule.
Austin – Four Texas Longhorn Football home games are moving up a week on the schedule over the next two years, Texas Athletics announced on Thursday. In 2027, UT's game against New Mexico State at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium will now be played on August 28 while Michigan's return visit to Austin will move up one week to September 4, and the home contest against UTEP will now be on September 11. Texas' home game against Louisiana Tech in 2028 has been moved up a week to August 26.
The NCAA's FBS Oversight Committee has approved changes that move the start of the college football season up one week beginning next session. What was previously designated as "Week Zero" will now officially be the opening week for college football games.
Texas' game against Michigan next season is the second of a home-and-home series that began with a 31-12 win for the Longhorns in Ann Arbor on September 7, 2024. Including last year's 41-27 Cheez-It Citrus Bowl victory, this will be the fourth meeting with the Wolverines and the first-ever in Austin. Texas is 3-0 all-time versus Michigan, also knocking them off in a Rose Bowl thriller in 2004, 38-37.
The Longhorns have faced New Mexico State five times dating back to 1996, all at home, with Texas winning all five matchups. They are also undefeated in seven meetings versus UTEP, including last season's 27-10 victory in Austin. Texas' lone game against Louisiana Tech was a 45-14 win in 2019.
