A four-year quarterback who played in 29 career games with 22 starts … had his 2013 season cut short due to a head injury, playing in just three games ... earned a medical redshirt ... returned to full health for the start of spring practice, though suffered a foot injury and missed the last couple of weeks ... played in one game in 2014 and retired on Sept. 17 due to a head injury ... had a 15-7 record as a starter with wins in 13 of his last 17 ... ended his career ranked eighth on the UT career passing yards list (4,728) and 10th in total offense (5,107) ... his four 300-yard games rank tied for fourth on the UT career list ... his 31 touchdown passes rank seventh on the Texas career list ... had a streak of 116 straight passes without an interception (fourth-longest in school history) snapped vs. Oklahoma State (9/29/12) ... set the school record for the most touchdown passes (four) by a true freshman in 2011 … a prep All-American who was rated the 11th-best quarterback as a senior by ESPNU … a two-time member of Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
REDSHIRT JUNIOR (2014)
Started the season opener against North Texas and went 19 of 34 for 190 yards through the air with one touchdown pass … also had a rushing TD ... was ruled out of the next two games due to concussion-like symptoms ... announced his retirement on Sept. 17.
Started three games (New Mexico State, BYU, Kansas State) ... saw his last action of the season vs. the Wildcats (Sept. 21) due to a head injury ... missed 10 games due to injury ... earned a medical redshirt for the season ... posted a career-high 434 yards of total offense (No. 6 in school history) and a passing efficiency rating of 207.2 against New Mexico State ... helped the Horns post a school-record 715 yards of total offense vs. the Aggies ... had 343 passing yards and a career-high 91 rushing yards, marking only the second time in UT history that a player passed for 300-plus yards and rushed for 90 or more yards in the same game ... threw four touchdowns each 25 yards or more ... ran a 55-yard touchdown to tie for 10th longest rush by a QB in Texas history ... with a 74-yard touchdown pass and a 55-yard TD run vs. the Aggies, became the first player in UT history to post a run and pass of 50-plus yards in the same game ... completed 19 of 34 for 251 yards and two touchdowns against BYU before leaving the game early with head and shoulder injuries ... missed the Ole Miss game with the same injuries ... completed 14 of 25 passes for 166 yards, including a 63-yard touchdown pass to Kendall Sanders, vs. Kansas State ... sat out the second half due to symptoms of a concussion re-emerging ... missed the Iowa State, Oklahoma, TCU, Kansas, West Virginia and Oklahoma State games with the same injury ... announced on Nov. 25 that he would not play the rest of the season.
SOPHOMORE (2012)
FRESHMAN (2011)
Played in all 13 games with six starts … those starts came against Oklahoma State, Kansas, Texas Tech, Missouri, Kansas State and California in the Holiday Bowl … had four touchdown passes which were the most by a true freshman in school history … threw five completions of 40 or more yards … one of five players to throw a touchdown pass on the season … also caught a 4-yard touchdown pass … in the Holiday Bowl he completed 14 of 23 passes for 142 yards and one touchdown while also catching a 4-yard touchdown pass from Jaxon Shipley ... made his collegiate starting debut against Oklahoma State, throwing for 139 yards on 22 of 40 passing with two interceptions to go with 21 rushing yards on 15 attempts … he was the first true freshman quarterback to start at Texas since Chris Simms in 1999 at Texas A&M … passed for a season-high 158 yards on 13 of 29 passing with one interception at Missouri … completed 14 of 18 pass for 145 yards against Kansas while scoring his first career rushing touchdown with 15 yards on eight carries … his completion percentage (.778) was a season best ... attempted just seven passes, completing four for 125 yards against Texas Tech while rushing for a season-high 59 yards on four runs including a 47-yard gain … rushed for 36 yards on nine carries against BYU while also catching a 23-yard pass and completing 2 of 3 passes for 35 yards … threw for 145 yards and two touchdowns on 7 of 12 passing vs. Iowa State … passed for 107 yards and one touchdown, completing 11 of 20 against Oklahoma.

Coached by Rodney Southern at Belton H.S. … a prep All-American, three-time all-district, two-time all-state and three-year starter at quarterback and punter … named an Old Spice Player of the Year … played in the 2011 Offense-Defense All-American Bowl, scoring on a 25-yard rushing TD and was named ‘Most Accurate’ passer at the end of the week … ranked as the 11th-best quarterback by ESPNU … rated as the fifth-best quarterback by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football … three-year starter who set 13 school records, passed for 7,944 yards and 80 TDs while rushing for 815 yards and 22 TDs … named second-team 5A all-state at QB and punter by the Texas Sports Writers Association as a senior … earned AP first-team all-state honors at punter and second-team honors at QB … named Offensive MVP of the Killeen Daily Herald’s All-Area Football Team … tabbed the class 5A/4A Player of the Year by the Temple Daily Telegram … a unanimous first-team all-district 12-5A selection at QB and punter … completed 243 of 395 passes (61.5%) for 3,453 yards (fourth-best in class 5A) and 41 TDs while rushing for 333 yards and eight TDs as a senior … also punted 20 times for an average of 43.1 yards per punt with a long of 62 … ESPN RISE Regional High School Player of the Week in week two after passing for 446 yards and six TDs and rushing for 69 yards and two TDs against Austin … named to Tom Lemming’s Junior All-American team … earned honorable mention all-state honors as a punter by the Associated Press … tabbed the district 12-5A Offensive MVP … helped lead Belton to a 10-2 record and an appearance in the second round of the state playoffs … passed for 2,002 yards and 23 TDs while rushing for 229 yards and five TDs … also punted 18 times for an average of 41.0 yards per punt … tabbed the district 12-5A Offensive Newcomer of the Year while earning first team honors as a sophomore … also earned second-team all-district honors as a punter … tallied 2,489 passing yards and 16 TDs while rushing for 253 yards and nine TDs … also punted 28 times for an average of 41.9 yards per punt … also lettered in track and basketball, averaging over 10 points per game in two seasons on varsity.
