Russ begins his fourth season as the volunteer assistant coach for the Longhorns.
Russ, who coaches the outfielders and helps coach the hitters, was a two-year letterwinner for the Longhorns from 2003-04 after playing for current UT assistant coach Skip Johnson at Navarro College in 2001-02. He played on UT’s 2003 and 2004 NCAA College World Series teams.
As a senior in 2004, Russ was third on the team in hitting with a .302 average (39-for-129) with 38 starts in 45 games. He recorded seven doubles, four triples, two home runs, 25 RBIs and six stolen bases while only recording one error in 55 chances (.982) while earning All-Big 12 honorable mention recognition. He appeared in 15 games during his 2003 junior season, making five starts and driving in two runs.
Russ played three seasons in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization before coming back to school at Texas in 2009. He received his bachelor’s degree in 2010.
Russ and his wife, Tracey, have a son, Braylan.
