A five-year player who appeared in 47 career games (35 on the defensive line, 12 at running back) ... had 19 career starts, all along the defensive line … had not missed a game his last three years until suffering a season-ending knee injury vs. West Virginia (Nov. 9, 2013) ... a 2013 honorable mention All-Big 12 choice by the coaches ... a 2013 team captain ... first defensive tackle in school history to have two defensive touchdowns in the same season (2013: 40-yard fumble return vs. Kansas; 31-yard interception return vs. Oklahoma) ... became the second player in school history to score on a pick and fumble in the same season (Brandon Foster had two interception returns for TDs and one fumble return in 2007) ... also just the sixth UT player to accomplish the feat in a career (also Dakarai Pearson, Matt Melton, Michael Huff and Norman Watkins) ... attended the 2014 NFL Combine ... moved to defensive line in the spring of 2011 … gained valuable experience working with the scout team in 2009 … a prep All-American and three-time all-state selection … played in the 2009 U.S. Army All-American Bowl … came up 75 yards short in his nine-game high school senior season of posting three consecutive 2,000-yard seasons … a two-time member of Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll (Spring 2012, Fall 2013).
SENIOR (2013)
Started the first nine games at defensive tackle ... missed the final four due to injury ... an honorable mention All-Big 12 choice by the coaches ... one of three Big 12 players in 2013 to score a touchdown via interception and fumble (Kip Daily, Kansas State; Gabe Lynn, Oklahoma) and the only defensive lineman ... the first defensive lineman in UT history to have two defensive TDs in the same season ... also is the first defensive lineman in UT history to return both an interception and fumble for a TD in the same season ... joined DE Norman Watkins as the only defensive linemen in UT history to return both an interception and a fumble for a TD in their careers, but Watkins came in different years ... voted a team captain at the end of the regular season (along with Adrian Phillips, Jackson Jeffcoat and Case McCoy) ... won both the team’s Roy Williams – Joe Jamail Leadership Award and Clyde Littlefield Most Team Spirited (Defense) Award ... shared both the Dr. Nasser Al-Rashid Strength & Conditioning Award (also Jackson Jeffcoat, Adrian Phillips, Mason Walters) and Joseph W. Moore Tenacity Award for Defense (also Jackson Jeffcoat, Malcom Brown) ... posted five tackles, including one for a loss, and one QB pressure against New Mexico State ... had four stops, including one for a loss, vs. BYU ... registered one tackle against Ole Miss ... registered two tackles and one fumble recovery against Kansas State ... notched five tackles, including one for a loss and one sack, vs. Iowa State ... recorded four tackles and a career-first interception, which he ran back 31 yards for a touchdown to become the seventh defensive lineman in UT history to do so, against Oklahoma ... registered three tackles, including matching career highs of two for a loss and one sack, and one QB pressure vs. TCU ... scored on a 40-yard fumble return in the win against Kansas ... had one solo tackle in the game against West Virginia before suffering a season-ending injury to his knee.
JUNIOR (2012)
Played in all 13 games along the defensive line ... started all games except the Ole Miss, Kansas, Texas Tech and Oregon St. contests ... tied for the team lead in blocked kicks (2) ... blocked a PAT and recorded two tackles, including one TFL against Wyoming ... posted a pass breakup vs. Ole Miss ... posted two tackles (one solo), including one TFL, against Oklahoma State ... notched career highs in tackles (7) and TFLs (2), and a fumble recovery and one QB pressure, vs. West Virginia ... blocked an extra-point attempt vs. Oklahoma which was returned by Quandre Diggs for a score ... marked the first defensive two-point score by Horns since 1999 (by Lee Jackson vs. Texas A&M) ... had one pass breakup against Baylor ... posted three stops vs. both Texas Tech and Iowa State ... registered two tackles against TCU ... made his first start at defensive end vs. Kansas State ... recorded three tackles in the Alamo Bowl vs. Oregon State.
SOPHOMORE (2011)
Played in all 13 games with one start … notched five tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, one fumble recovery, three pressures and one pass breakup … drew his first career start at Baylor … helped Texas lead the Big 12 and rank sixth in the nation in rushing defense (96.23 ypg) and 11th in total defense (306.08) … also ranked 10th in pass efficiency defense (111.0) … recovered a fumble and helped the defense hold California to seven rushing yards and 195 yards of total offense in the Holiday Bowl ... registered one sack and two tackles against Kansas as the defense posted a shutout performance against Kansas, allowing only 46 yards of total offense and negative two rushing yards … had two tackles with one for a loss at Missouri … recorded one tackle each against Rice and Iowa State … posted one QB pressure against BYU, Kansas State and Texas A&M … broke up one pass against Oklahoma.
