Shaun McPherson enters his fifth season leading the Texas Women's Basketball strength and conditioning efforts.
McPherson came to Texas after spending two seasons as an assistant sports performance coach for football and track & field at the University of Kansas. Prior to his stint with the Jayhawks, McPherson spent 10 years as the strength and conditioning coach at Baylor where he oversaw the efforts for 15 Big 12 Conference regular season and tournament championship teams in four sports, including two 2004 Olympic Gold Medalists, three first round MLB draft picks, seven WNBA draftees, and 2005 NCAA Champion women's basketball team.
During his 10-year stint at Baylor, McPherson was directly responsible for seven of the Lady Bears basketball teams where he designed and implemented the speed, strength, agility, flexibility and nutritional programs. While working with the program, he helped develop seven WNBA draft picks including the No. 4 pick in 2006 and the No. 5 pick in 2007. He was named the Director of Strength and Conditioning for women's basketball at Baylor in 2007 and served in that capacity until his departure.
McPherson holds memberships and certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist), United States Weight Lifting Association (Level One Club Coach Certification) and Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Association. He reports to Texas Women's Basketball head coach Karen Aston.
He earned his masters in education in 2001 while at Baylor. McPherson is a 1999 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (B.A. in Exercise and Sport Science), where he began his career as an undergraduate strength and conditioning coach for the Tar Heels.
McPherson is a native of Whiteville, NC, and has a daughter -- Ryleigh Maebelle.
EXPERIENCE: WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
BAYLOR
• Strength and Conditioning Coach for the 2005 NCAA Champions
• Assisted the program in reaching four-of-seven possible NCAA Sweet 16's
• Participated in the NCAA Tournament for seven consecutive years
• Produced two WNBA Draft First Round picks in Sophia Young and Bernice Mosby, and numerous additional overseas players in a seven-year stint at Baylor

• Coached a 2011 100m / 200m Pan Am Games and Olympic Trials Amputee Participant
• Coached 2011 Women's Midwest Track Athlete of the Year & 2011 Women's 400m USA Junior Champion Diamond Dixon
BAYLOR
• Worked with 2004 Olympic Gold Medalists in Jeremy Wariner (400m / 400m Relay) and Darold Williamson (400m Relay)
• Strength Coach for the 2002 (4 x 400m Relay) NCAA Champions
EXPERIENCE: TENNIS
BAYLOR
• Assisted the Men's and Women's Tennis program in winning eight Big 12 Regular Season and Tournament titles over three years
• Strength and Conditioning Coach for three current ATP tour player
• Coached Women's Tennis to its only NCAA Semifinalist appearance in 2008
• Strength Coach for the 2008 NCAA Women's Singles Finalist (runner-up)
