Dramatic Texas victory highlighted in Holiday Bowl book
08.05.2003 | Football
The dramatic comeback by the Texas Longhorns to capture the 2001 Holiday Bowl Championship is one of a number of great moments featured in a new book entitled"Miracles and Memories - 25 years of Holiday Bowl Magic," which has just been published this summer.
The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary and the book, written by John Reid, the Bowl's executive director from 1980 to 2000, recounts the great plays and great games that have served to define "America's Most Exciting Bowl Game."
The Texas Longhorns played back-to-back games in San Diego, losing a shootout with Oregon, 35-30, in 2000, and coming from their largest deficit in history to defeat Washington, 47-43 in 2001 - a game rated by some as the most exciting bowl game ever.
Reid details the development of the bowl's acclaimed festival of events, and he takes readers behind-the-scenes to examine the discussions, decisions and negotiations over the years that have brought the Holiday bowl to its current status as one of the most popular destinations of Big 12 and Pac-10 teams.
Currently, the bowl gets the No. 3 pick out of the Big 12, behind the BCS' Tostidos Fiesta Bowl and the SBC Cotton Bowl.
Along with Reid's historical narrative, the book features a striking display of photography that vividly captures 25 years of game action, pageantry and personalities.
The 2003 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl, matching a team from the Big 12 and a team from the Pac 10, kicks off Tuesday, December 30, at 5 p. m.
The limited edition book can be ordered by calling the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl at (619) 283-5808, or through the Bowlwebsite at .
