European tour 2004: Brandy Magee on day 10
05.29.2004 | Volleyball
MUNICH -- Today started bright and early once again in order to practice for our last match tomorrow. We've been on a hot streak this trip, winning all four matches that we've played thus far. It's been really exciting for our team because we've had to use different line-ups and rotations, yet everyone has adjusted pretty well and the outcomes have been great. We're all really fired up about trying to win our last match of this European tour tomorrow and go 5-0 on the trip!
After we finished practice for the day, the team headed back to the hotel in order to get all of our things packed and then we boarded onto the bus because we were headed for Munich, Germany.
We all had to say goodbye to beautiful Austria. Before we were off on our three hour drive to Munich, we all stopped at a little place that I like to think of as a piece of home...McDonald's.
Although the different kinds of cuisine that I have had the pleasure of trying have been absolutely wonderful, I will say that eating that Big Mac was awesome! Did I mention that Usher's "Yeah" came on while we were all eating and once again Jessica Curtis and I proceeded to cheer Dariam (Acevedo) on and make her dance (because she is the queen of music videos' dance moves).
We were then on our journey to Germany, the final destination of our tour. As usual, I was basically asleep for the entire bus ride, right up until we arrived at the concentration camp (Dachau). The team was able to walk around the camp and read about all of the things that went on when Hitler ruled Nazi Germany. It was really an eye-opener to see all of the pictures of the prisoners and how they were treated. I had no idea that there were so many camps spread out over such a great area of central Europe. It definitely made me have a greater appreciation for everything that we have back in the United States.
After arriving at our hotel, we were free to go off on our own and get some dinner. Well, if you know me, you would probably guess that I was off in search of something familiar. You would be correct. What I would find was a great surprise, let me tell you. Dariam and I found Pizza Hut! I know you're probably thinking that I would be tired of pizza from our stay in Italy, but I guess Pizza Hut can just never get old for me. It was a nice treat.
The night ended with Erin Larson, Jessica, Dariam, and I just kicking back downstairs in the hotel lobby. We all ordered some ice cream (not gelato) and just took time to reflect on the day and the trip to date. Good times! Well it's time for me to go to sleep now and get ready for our last day here. Wish us luck tomorrow! Adios amigos!
