SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Dariam Acevedo continued to swing a hot hand as she landed 11 kills and recorded her fourth double-double of the season adding 13 digs as she helped lead the No. 14 Texas volleyball team past Texas State, 30-26, 30-18, 30-16, on Tuesday night at Strahan Coliseum in the Horns' final non-conference match before the postseason.
Lauren Paolini recorded a match-high 12 kills and hit .688 as Texas (17-3) improved to 6-1 in non-Big 12 matches this season.
Leticia Armstrong had eight kills in the three-game win, while Jen Christian matched her career high with 12 digs. Alyson Jennings added 10 digs in the win to round out a trio of Horns with double-digit digs.
Lawrencia Brown had 12 kills for Texas State (13-10) as the Longhorns limited the Bobcats to an .094 hitting percentage for the match, including marks of .049 and .071 in the final two games. Conversely, Texas swung for a .424 mark, its highest mark of the season to date and third .400-plus effort of the year.
Armstrong and Brandy Magee each recorded match-highs with three blocks as Texas had seven to Texas State's four.
In the last four matches, Acevedo has averaged 4.85 kills per game (14.5 per three-game match) and has hit .373 while adding 2.69 digs per game and 0.77 block per game, all marks above her season averages.
The first game was tight between the two schools as the squads played through nine ties and neither team gained more than a three-point advantage. However, at 26-26, Texas State swung for four consecutive attack errors to give game one to the Horns.
Texas took command of game two from the outset, building as much as a seven-point lead at 17-10. The Bobcats crept within four points at 20-16, but UT regained control and after a Paolini kills made it 23-17, Kiley Hall served out the final seven points of the match that included three of the Horns' blocks on the night.
In game three, Texas State clung to a three-point deficit at 13-10 (Texas), but UT went on a 7-1 run behind Jennings' serve to extend a nine-point lead at 20-11. The Longhorns closed out the match on a 10-3 run that includes two kills each from Acevedo, Jennifer Todd and Heather Schreiber.
The Longhorns return to action on Saturday, Nov. 5, when they host Baylor in a 6:30 p.m. match at Gregory Gym. With the match against the Bears, UT will have seven matches left in the regular-season.
