AUSTIN, Texas -- UT offensive coordinator Greg Davis has been awarded a "MCS Game Ball" from the Master Coaches Survey, honoring him as the national offensive coordinator of the week. Davis led the Texas offense to its third consecutive 600-yard total offense game, a UT first, in a 66-14 win over Kansas.
Facing a Jayhawk team that entered the game as the nation's top run defense, allowing only 64 rushing yards per game, Davis' offense recorded 336 yards on the ground and another 281 through the air. The Longhorns built a 52-0 halftime advantage, tying the school record for points in a half. In addition to the yards, QB Vince Young threw for a career-high four touchdowns.
The Longhorn offense currently leads the nation in scoring offense (50.1 ppg), and ranks second in the nation in total offense (527.9 ypg) and rushing offense (284.3 ypg).
Auburn tailback Kenny Irons, Ohio State linebacker A.J. Hawk, LSU punter Chris Jackson, and Iowa defensive coordinator Norm Parker also will receive game balls for their respective performances in games over the weekend.
