Men's Golf climbs to fifth after second round of Hall of Fame Invitational

HUMBLE, Texas -- The Texas men's golf team had four players shoot under par on Saturday, March 19 to move into fifth place after the second round of the Hall of Fame Invitational (Redstone Golf Club: Par 72, 7,352 yards) at four-over-par (298-282=580). Junior Matthew Rosenfeld (Plano, Texas) fired a two-under-par 70 to lead the Longhorns to a second-round 282 (-6) and he now sits in a tie for ninth place. Oklahoma State currently holds the lead at 14-under-par, while UNLV's Ryan Moore sits atop the individual leaderboard at six-under-par.
"We did a much better job today," said Texas head coach John Fields. "I know the guys feel good about today, but we still have some work to do. I think this will help get our confidence going as we head into the final round."
Rosenfeld used six birdies on the day to finish with a 70 (-2). He is now just four shots off the lead after combining today's 70 with Friday's even-par 72. Sophomore Jhonattan Vegas (Maturin, Venezuela) had his best round as a Longhorn with a two-under-par 70. He is now in a tie for 16th place with six others at even par.
After a three-over-par 75 on Friday, junior Jeff Bell (Plano, Texas) came back to card a one-under-par 71 on Saturday and is now tied for 31st place at two-over-par. Freshman Jace Moore (Southlake, Texas) also shot a one-under-par 71 and moved from 71st place into a tie for 48th at five-over-par. Freshman Kevin Schultz (Richardson, Texas) shot a one-over-par 73 and is now tied for 54th place at six-over-par.
On the individual side, senior Shaun Goodwin (Spring, Texas) used seven birdies to post a four-under-par 68 on Saturday to move into a tie for 16th place at even par. Junior Matthew Mills (London, England) carded a one-over-par 73 and is tied for 67th place at eight-over-par heading into the final round.
Sophomore Farren Keenan (Middlesex, England) improved by four strokes in the second round with a four-over-par 76 and is tied for 83rd place at 12-over-par. Freshman Hector Diaz-Ceballos (Morelos, Mexico) shot a seven-over-par 79 and is tied for 91st place at 13-over-par.
