Softball earns sweep of Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. -- For the second day in a row, Megan Willis (Chander, Ariz.) drove in the game-winning run as the sixth-ranked Texas softball team earned a weekend sweep of Oklahoma State with a 2-1 victory at the Cowgirl Stadium on Sunday. Cat Osterman (Houston, Texas) struck out 19 batters in her two-hitter to close out the Longhorns' conference season with a victory.
Texas (37-11, 11-6 Big 12) jumped right out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Tina Boutelle (Katy, Texas) punched a triple to left center with one out and then came home when Chez Sievers (Mission Viejo, Calif.) snaked a single up the middle in the next at-bat. Desiree Williams (Tucson, Ariz.) then reached on a fielder's choice and moved to third when Cowgirl starter Jessica Hoppock overthrew first base when fielding Christina Gwyn's (Keller, Texas) dribbler back to the circle. Willis then stepped up and drove in a run for the second day in a row when her single to left field plated Williams.
Cat Osterman (Houston, Texas) cruised in the first two inning, striking out the first six batters she faced, but then ran into trouble in the third, allowing Oklahoma State (32-20, 7-11 Big 12) to push a run across the board.
Osterman walked the lead-off batter, Ashlyn Watson, then stuck out the next before walking Lacy Darity to put runners on first and second with one out. Shanel Scott dropped a bunt and beat out the throw to load the bases. Osterman then got Stephanie Nicholson to strike out for the second out, but Courtney Totte brought in Watson to make the score 2-1 when a high chopper up the middle was misfielded by the UT defense. With the bases still loaded and two outs, Tara Jeffrey stuck out for the second time in the game to end the inning.
Osterman (21-6) tossed a two-hitter in the complete game, allowing one unearned run with 19 strikeouts while walking two. The 19 strikeouts matched her career high for strikeouts in a seven-inning game.
Hoppock (13-10) took the loss after throwing a three-hitter, allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out four and walking two in the complete game. After surrendering all three hits in the first inning, she didn't allow a hit for the rest of the game as she faced one batter above the minimum for six innings.
Texas closes out it regular season on Wednesday, May, 4, at St. Edward's (Austin) with a 3 p.m. single game.
