AUSTIN, Texas -- One of the winningest and tradition-rich programs in collegiate baseball, The University of Texas is featured prominently in the Electronic Arts (EA) Sports video game MVP '06 College Baseball, which was released on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
This new version of the best-selling and critically acclaimed MVP BaseballTM franchise is being produced by Electronic Arts Canada in Vancouver, B.C., and will celebrate everything that makes NCAA® baseball unique -- aluminum bats, intense action and stadiums filled with school spirit and packed with passionate fans. While the game will include 120 teams in this first version, they have only selected 16 schools, including UT, for which to replicate their exact baseball stadium in the game.
"We're excited to be able to work with our partners at the NCAA to deliver the first-ever college baseball video game and our most innovative baseball product to date," senior project producer Brent Nielsen said. "Baseball purists and casual fans alike have flocked to the MVP Baseball game in record numbers year after year. We know MVP '06 NCAA Baseball will only grow that passion for the best baseball experience on the market."
Additionally, former Longhorns third baseman David Maroul, who was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2005 College World Series, is the cover athlete for the newest EA Sports video game.
"Playing to earn a National Championship for The University of Texas was one of the greatest moments of my life; Needless to say, I'm still really nostalgic about it and this is a great way for me to re-live it again and again," said Maroul. "I've been waiting for a game like this to come out for a long time. I just can't believe how realistic the game is."
Notably, from a branding standpoint, this game will expose NCAA Baseball to the estimated 800,000 people who purchase the product and the millions of kids who play the game.
