No. 13 Soccer tops Nebraska for record-setting seventh road win, 2-1

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The No. 13 Texas soccer team used goals by juniors Kelsey Carpenter and Caitlin Kennedy to win its record-setting seventh road match of the season. UT defeated the Huskers, 2-1, in front of 351 fans on Sunday, Oct. 15 in Lincoln, Neb.
Texas is now 12-3-1 and 5-1-1 in the Big 12 Conference. Nebraska falls to 8-5-3 overall and 3-4-1 in the league. UT ends the regular season road schedule with the most wins away from Myers in a single season with seven. Prior to this season, UT won six road matches in 2001.
Kennedy (Euless, Texas) scored her second goal of the season, to tie the match at 1-1, 33 minutes, six seconds into the match. Senior Amy Burlingham (Costa Mesa, Calif.) won the ball from a Nebraska defender, and played it forward. She slid the ball into Carpenter (Allen, Texas) who placed a cross into Kennedy. Kennedy hit the ball with the side of her foot to score the goal.
Carpenter and Kennedy hooked up for the second score as well. At the 56:08 mark, the duo found each other outside of the box for the game-winning score. Kennedy flicked the ball past the Nebraska defense, and Carpenter touched it before putting in the goal behind the Huskers' goalkeeper Jamie Klages.
"It was definitely a physical game," commented eighth-year UT head coach Chris Petrucelli. "There were a lot of loose balls and head balls."
Nebraska was called for 14 fouls while Texas was whistled for 12.
"It was nice to win on the road," continued Petrucelli. "We've been really focused on the road. We've done a good job of not letting anything distract us and that is something that has worked in our favor this year."
Against Nebraska, sophomore Dianna Pfenninger allowed one goal and registered two saves in 90 minutes of action. Pfenninger won her 10th game of the season and her 19th overall, which moves her into fourth on the all-time wins list. She is second on the all-time season record list with ten wins, behind the all-time leader Shay Wilkerson, who recorded 11 wins in 2000.
Carpenter also moved up on the all-time lists. She is tied for sixth with 10 goals and tied for second with five game-winning goals in a single season. She is tied for third on the all-time career list with eight game-winning goals. With the assist, Carpenter added sole possession of seventh place to her resume with 14 career assists.
The Texas defense held the league's top scorer Brittany Timko scoreless. Timko did register an assist on the lone Nebraska goal of the game.
NU's Klages allowed two goals and two saves in 90 minutes of action.
Texas returns home next weekend to face Missouri on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. (Central) and Iowa State on Sunday, Oct. 22 at noon (Central).
