AUSTIN, Texas -- Sophomore defender Kasey Moore was named Soccer America magazine Player of the Week on Wednesday, Nov. 1, for her performance in the upset victory over fifth-ranked Texas A&M on Friday, Oct. 27.
Moore (Mission Viejo, Calif.) scored the game-winning goal on a header, 72 minutes, two seconds into the match. Texas, led by eighth-year head coach Chris Petrucelli, handed the Aggies their first conference loss of the 2006 season and for the first time in program history, UT won back-to-back games against Texas A&M.
For the second consecutive season, Moore netted a goal against the Aggies. In the 2005 contest, she scored the first goal of the Longhorns' 2-1 win over TAMU.
Moore has six points through 19 matches. She scored two goals and registered two assists, and has started every contest this year.
The award is not a first for Moore, who was named to Soccer America's national team of the week on August 31, 2005, after scoring her first career goal in just her second collegiate match. The Soccer America All-Freshman First-Team selection set the UT record for most points by a defender in a single season during her rookie campaign.
Teammate Kelsey Carpenter (Allen, Texas) earned national accolades earlier in the 2006 season (Sept. 6), when she was cited after scoring two game-winning goals less than 72 hours apart to upset two programs ranked in the top 15 in the national soccer polls. UT beat No. 3 Penn State, 2-1 on Friday, Sept. 1, and shut-out No. 13 Illinois, 1-0, on Sunday, Sept. 3.
The two wins over higher-ranked programs to start the season, were just the beginning for the Longhorns, who are in the midst of a record-setting 2006 campaign. UT set a school record for most regular season wins with 15, most road victories with seven and most overall victories with 16.
Follow Moore and the rest of her Longhorn teammates as they continue play in the 2006 Big 12 Soccer Championships on Nov. 1, 3 & 5 at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.
