Woodard named head coach at Navarro College

Navarro College has announced former Longhorn Ray Woodard as its new head football coach. Woodard has been the defensive coordinator at Navarro College for the past two seasons.
Woodard was born in Corrigan, Texas, and attended Kilgore College, where in his freshman year the Rangers finished second in the nation; and The University of Texas (1982-83), where in his senior year, the Longhorns led the nation in defense.
Woodard earned a bachelor of science in kinesiology from Sam Houston State University and a master's in education from University of Texas at Tyler. After college, he was drafted by the San Diego Chargers, and was also a member of the 1986 Denver Broncos Super Bowl Team.
Woodard has been an assistant coach in the NJCAA Region XIV totaling 10 years, as assistant coach at Kilgore College for eight years, and at Navarro College for two years. He has spent five seasons as a Texas high school coach, seven years as a professional coach in Arena Football and NFL Europe. He was a defensive coordinator in NFL Europe for four of those years.
Woodard and his wife Penne have been married 24 years. Penne is a nurse for the Baylor Health Care System in Waxahachie, and they have one daughter, Jessica.
