No. 1/1 Football’s Manning, Goosby earn SEC weekly honors

The senior quarterback was named Co-SEC Offensive Player of the Week, and the senior offensive lineman was tabbed Co-SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1/1 Texas Football (2-0) senior quarterback Arch Manning was named the Southeastern Conference's Co-Offensive Player of the Week while senior offensive lineman Trevor Goosby was selected as the conference's Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Manning and Goosby become the second and third Longhorns to receive weekly honors from the SEC, joining senior linebacker Rasheem Biles who was selected as the SEC's Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 7. It's Manning's third career SEC weekly honor and his first since Nov. 3, 2025. It's Goosby second career conference weekly honor and his first since Dec. 1, 2025.
The duo led Texas to its first 20-plus-point comeback in the fourth quarter against a No. 1 team in 22 years in Texas' 24-23 win over No. 1/1 Ohio State at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium on Sept. 12. It was the second-largest fourth-quarter comeback in program history and the fourth-largest overall comeback in program history. The Longhorns moved to 2-0 and captured their 11th-consecutive victory at home, including their fourth-straight win at home against a ranked opponent.
Manning orchestrated three-consecutive touchdown drives to end the game (all of at least 12 plays and 72 yards) and rally from a 23-3 deficit. On those three drives, he completed 13-of-18 passes to seven different receivers for 125 yards and one touchdown and rushed three times for 26 yards. Two of his completions came on fourth downs in Texas territory that kept two of the scoring drives alive. The Longhorns became the only team in the past 15 years to close a victory with three-straight touchdown drives of 12 or more plays. It marked the third-largest comeback win by any FBS team against an AP No. 1 team this century, while Texas became the first non-conference opponent this century to score 21-plus points in the fourth quarter against Ohio State (first overall team since Michigan on in 2022). The New Orleans native has now thrown a touchdown pass in four-consecutive games against a Top 5 opponent, the longest streak by an FBS QB since a six-game run by Ohio State's Will Howard in 2024. He holds a 5-2 record in seven games against Top 25 teams dating back to last season with a 3.33 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio. Four of those victories came against Top 10 teams. Manning has now led four fourth-quarter comebacks in his career after doing so against Kentucky, Mississippi State and Michigan last year. Against the Buckeyes, Manning tossed a perfectly placed touchdown pass to WR Ryan Wingo with 14:19 remaining in the game that started the comeback and capped a drive in which he converted a fourth-and-9 to TE Emaree Winston from the Longhorns' 42-yard line. On the next drive, Manning found WR Emmett Mosley for a 12-yard gain on a fourth-and-6 from Texas' own 32 before the Longhorns scored a touchdown nine plays later to pull within 23-17. The final drive was highlighted by a 19-yard pass play from Manning to Mosley to reach the Ohio State 1-yard line before Texas punched in the winning score from there three plays later with 00:25 left. Manning improved his record to 14-3 as a starter, including a 10-0 record at home, across three seasons and in that time has passed for 4,632 yards and 40 touchdowns, while rushing for 544 yards and 14 scores and posting one receiving touchdown.
Goosby was the top-graded offensive lineman and allowed no sacks or pressures against Ohio State. The Longhorns' offense manufactured three-consecutive touchdown drives to end the game (all of at least 12 plays and 72 yards) and rally from a 23-3 deficit. Goosby helped pave the way for 336 yards of total offense, including 141 yards on the ground against the Buckeyes. During the fourth quarter, the Longhorns compiled 150 yards of total offense, including 83 in the air and 67 on the ground, outgaining the Buckeyes, 150-52. Including the final drive of the third quarter, Texas totaled 236 total yards in the last 21 minutes of the game. Goosby blocked for RB Hollywood Smothers who led Texas with 21 carries for 74 yards and two touchdowns. RB Raleek Brown averaged 5.4 yards per carry after totaling 10 rushes for 54 yards.
The Longhorns are back in action at 7 p.m. CT Saturday, Sept. 19, against the UTSA Roadrunners at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. The game will stream on SEC Network+ with Clay Matvick (play-by-play), Rocky Boiman (analyst) and Austyn Iven (reporter) on the call.
