Denny pitches Softball to two-hit shutout over Texas State

AUSTIN, Texas -- Sophomore Meagan Denny (16-3) pitched her fourth shutout of the season and led The University of Texas softball team to a 1-0 win over Texas State in Austin at McCombs Field.
Texas scored the lone run of the game in the sixth inning. The Longhorns started with a Desiree Williams single to get the winning run on base. Amber Hall then punched a double into left center field to put runners on third and second. The next batter was Meagan Willis, who drove in the winning RBI off a single through the left side of the infield.
Denny struck out nine batters and collected her 16th victory in 21 starts while Bobcat Sarah Lancour moved to 12-7 in the year. It was Denny's 14th complete game of the season and improves her ERA to 1.44. Neither pitcher walked a batter in 47 total at bats.
With the victory, Texas improves to 41-4 overall on the season and 25-1 at home while Texas State moves to 28-14. The win snapped a four game winning streak by the Bobcats.
Willis finished the night with two hits at the plate in three trips and one RBI. She also led the team with nine put outs at catcher. She improved her batting average to .300 on the year with 33 hits in 110 at bats.
Desiree Williams and Amber Hall finished 1-for-3 on the night. Williams is riding a three-game hitting streak and has eight hits in UT's last nine games. Hall recorded her seventh double of the season and Crystal Saenz recorded her fifth double with her lone hit of the game.
The Longhorns return to action on Friday and Saturday, April 14-15, when they head to Norman, Okla. to face the Oklahoma Sooners. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. on ESPNU and Saturday's game is scheduled for 12 p.m. on ESPN.
