DURHAM, N.C. -- University of Texas freshman outfielder Kyle Russell earned 2006 All-Freshman Team honors from Baseball America on Friday, June 30.
With the team being broken into two squads of 15 freshman student-athletes, Russell (Tomball, Texas), who was a second-team selection, became one of only 30 players nationally to receive such recognition. He was also the only student-athlete from the Big 12 Conference included on either squad.
Russell, who played in 55 games for the Longhorns in 2006, batted .276 overall while ranking second on the club in home runs (10) and third in both RBI (42) and stolen bases (8). Additionally, he amassed a .546 slugging percentage to go along with a .365 on-base mark en route to earning first-team Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball earlier in June.
