TUCSON, Ariz. -- University of Texas freshmen Jordan Danks, Kyle Russell, Bradley Suttle and Austin Wood were all selected as 2006 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball on Friday, June 9.
While their honors accounted for four of the 86 handed out to first-year players nationally by Collegiate Baseball, they were also half of the eight awarded to Big 12 Conference student-athletes. With four Freshman All-America accolades, the Longhorns not only garnered the most for any one school in 2006 and but also recorded the most in program history for one season. Additionally, Texas has now had 24 players receive Freshman All-America honors overall and had at least one Freshman All-American on its roster during each of the last eight years.
Danks (Round Rock, Texas) finished the 2006 season with the fourth-highest batting average on the team (.319) while equaling the school freshman record for triples with five and boasting a .429 on-base percentage. Suttle (Boerne, Texas) and Russell (Tomball, Texas), meanwhile hit .301 and .276, respectively, to rank among the top eight on the team in overall batting. Additionally, Suttle started 61 of the club's 62 games, scored 31 runs and tallied 36 RBI, while Russell placed second on the club in home runs (10) and third on the squad in RBI (42). On the mound, Wood (Kingwood, Texas) appeared in a team-best 35 games for UT, posted a 3.15 ERA to go along with four wins and seven saves, which tied him for ninth on the school single-season saves list.
