Peirsol and Men's Swimming finish strong on day two of USA National Championships

IRVINE, Calif. and INDIANAPOLIS -- Former University of Texas All-American Aaron Peirsol captured the 100-meter backstroke and three current Longhorns added top-five finishes Wednesday at the 2006 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships.
Peirsol clocked 53.38 to claim the 100-meter backstroke, falling just under one-quarter of a second shy of breaking the world record he set last year in Indianapolis. Junior Daniel Rohleder (Austin, Texas) took third in the "B" final in 56.32, while senior Thomas Sacco (Dallas, Texas) placed fifth in 56.64. Sophomore Michael Klueh (Evansville, Ind.) took third in the "B" final of the 200-meter freestyle, clocking 1:50.23.
Former UT All-America diver Troy Dumais sits in first place after Wednesday's three-meter semifinals heading into Friday's finals. Dumais totaled 348.80 for sixth place in the preliminary round before vaulting to first place with a score of 439.85.
The CononoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships and the Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships continue on Thursday.
