Soccer falls to Oklahoma State, 1-0

AUSTIN, Texas -- The tenth-ranked Texas soccer team (8-3, 2-1 Big 12 Conference) dropped its first conference match of the season, losing to No. 17 Oklahoma State, 1-0, on Friday, Sept. 29 at Mike Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
UT picks up its first loss in conference action with a 2-1-0 record and an overall count of 8-3-0. Oklahoma State moves to 4-1-0 in Big 12 play and boasts an overall record of 9-2-1.
Oklahoma State put the first goal on the scoreboard after a free kick was sent from the right side of the field, in front of the Longhorn net. Coming from the left side of the field, freshman Kasey Langdon sent a shot past UT goalkeeper Dianna Pfenninger (Sugar Land, Texas) who came out of the box.
This is the second consecutive win for Oklahoma State in the all-time series against Texas and marks the first time in history that OSU has won a match in Austin. UT still holds the all-time advantage at 7-4-1.
The Texas offense continually drove the ball down the field, taking 14 shots with two on goal.
The Longhorns' defense kept the Cowgirls outside of the box for the majority of the 90-minute contest and held their ninth opponent this season (in eleven matches) to one goal or less. The OSU score was only the 10th goal allowed this season by UT and only the second in three league contests.
Texas was shut out for the third time this season and the first time at home. The Longhorns were held off the scoreboard for just the third time at home in three years (26 contests) and ninth time in 56 overall matches.
Three minutes, 15 seconds into the game, junior Kelsey Carpenter (Allen, Texas) attempted to make the Longhorns' first goal with a chip from the left side just inside the 18-yard box. Oklahoma State's goalkeeper Erin Stigler had trouble with the play, but with the help of teammates, prevented the score.
Junior Leslie Imber (Houston, Texas) almost scored her second goal of the year, but UT was called for an offside, which disallowed the score.
The game was a physical match with both teams getting tagged with 11 fouls.
The Longhorns continue the two-match home stand, hosting Oklahoma (3-8-0, 0-4-0 Big 12 Conference) on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. (Central) at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.
