OAKLAND, Calif. --- Texas junior defender Kasey Moore was named to the Soccer America magazine team of the week for her performance against No. 12 Missouri and Kansas, announced Tuesday.
Moore, who earns the third national weekly honor of her career, scored two goals on Friday night (Oct. 21) to help the then sixth-ranked Longhorns defeat the Tigers, 3-2, in overtime. Texas went down 2-0 to the Tigers in the first eight minutes of the game. Moore headed in a corner from junior midfielder Courtney Gaines at 35:17 to tie the game heading into halftime. Moore scored her career-high fourth game-winning goal of the season at 96:22. Moore also helped the Texas defense hold the Big 12's most productive offense scoreless for the remaining 88 minutes of the match.
On Sunday, Oct. 21, the Mission Viejo, Calif. native led UT in shots with five in a 0-0 draw with Kansas.
Earlier this year, Moore was named to the Soccer America National Team of the Week for the week ending Sept. 5 after scoring a goal in a 3-1 win over TCU. The other weekly career honor came for her game-winning goal performance in the upsetting No. 5 Texas A&M on Oct. 27, 2006.
Moore's offensive production is the best of her three-year career. She leads all defenders and is second on the team in points (18) and goals (8). She is the team leader in game-winners with four this season.
Since walking on the Forty Acres in August of 2005, Moore has cracked the UT all-time GWG list with six in her career, which ties her with Amy Burlingham (2003-06) at No. 7. The 2006 NSCAA All-American was integral part of UT's defense that set school records with 10 shutouts and a 0.77 goals-against average. She was also named to the Soccer America All-Freshman Team.
As a team, the Longhorns are ranked No. 8 in the NSCAA/adidas Coaches poll and 11-2-3 overall and 4-1-2 in the Big 12 heading into this weekend's games against Oklahoma State (Oct. 26) and Oklahoma (Oct. 28). UT has won seven of its last 10 matches, outscoring its opponents, 18-7, during that stretch. With three games remaining, the Longhorns are third in the Big 12 team standings. UT hosts Colorado, in a rematch of the 2006 Big 12 Tournament Championship, in the 2007 regular-season finale on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. CDT.
