Softball shut out by Texas State, 3-0

AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 15 Texas Softball team dropped its fourth consecutive game Wednesday night, as Texas State righthander Regan Blake tossed a one-hitter to lead the Bobcats to a 3-0 victory over the Longhorns. The loss dropped the Horns to 28-14 on the season and 3-7 in Big 12 play, while Texas State improved to 24-19 on the year.
Blake (19-10) held the Longhorns hitless for six innings before allowing a leadoff single to senior catcher Megan Willis in the top of the seventh inning. Willis squeezed UT's lone hit past Bobcats' second baseman Ryan Kos, erasing Blake's no-hit bid. The junior righthander held Texas scoreless, allowing four walks and striking out one, while facing 25 batters.
"We didn't do what we needed to offensively tonight," Texas head coach Connie Clark said. "Our team is struggling with its confidence right now and this can be a really evil game when your confidence is down."
Texas State did its offensive damage in the fifth, stinging Longhorns' reliever Torrey Schroeder (2-1) for three runs, including a pair of long home runs. Bobcats' leftfielder Jetta Weinheimer led off the frame with a solo blast to leftfield, and Kos added a two-out, two-run shot to cap the scoring and give Texas State a 3-0 advantage.
"I give Texas State credit because they came out swinging tonight," Schroeder said. "They came out with confidence, and we need to work as a team to find our confidence and start playing Texas Softball."
Schroeder came on in relief of Meagan Denny in the fourth, suffering the loss after giving up three runs on three hits in 1.2 innings of work. Freshman righthander Erin Tresselt spelled Schroeder for the final 2.1 innings, holding the Bobcats scoreless, while allowing just one baserunner and striking out two.
The Longhorns return to action Saturday, April 21 when they travel to Stillwater, Okla. for a two-game Big 12 Conference series with Oklahoma State. Game one is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
