On the road with Baseball: Lawrence, Kan.

Hey Longhorns,
It's Saturday night here in Lawrence, Kan., and most of us are trickling back into the hotel after going out to eat and then to the movies. As most of you have probably already seen, we fought through a tough weekend to get the series victory over Kansas, two games to one. After two slugfests Thursday and Friday, we were able to battle our way through a back-and-forth game today behind two home runs from Kyle Russell, who tied the UT single-season home run record with his 19th and 20th home runs of the year, and a gutsy, 4.1-inning relief performance from Randy Boone.
If this trip could be summed up in one word for our players, coaches and fans, I think it would be remembered as FREEZING! We played all three games in sub-freezing temperatures, and I know we will never forget how cold it was here this weekend. Our hats are off to our equipment manager Matt Rutherford and his crew (student managers Will Buckley, Blake Hill and Travis Wright) for keeping us warm throughout the weekend with heavy-duty heaters in the dugout as well as some hand and foot warmers. All of us were bundled up with three or four layers whenever possible!
We have had a good time here in Lawrence so far, just hanging out with each other and finding stuff to do when we aren't at games or study hall. Luckily, there is a movie theatre about one hundred yards from the hotel, and most of us have seen one or two movies since we have been here. My roommate Randy and I saw "Blades of Glory" Wednesday night, and a big group of guys went to see "Shooter" tonight. After the game today, several of us walked down the street to, ironically, the Longhorn Steakhouse, which was very good. Also, as if three games in the freezing cold weren't enough, a bunch of guys went to play disc golf at a local course. Personally, I wanted to stay out of the elements, but as you can see in the photo, it looks like they had a great time.
Well, it's about time to head down to study hall for the evening, so I will close by thanking the fans that made it out to our games and roughed it with us in the freezing conditions for three days. We have a few days to relax before it is back to practice to get ready for the Red Raiders next weekend at home. I hope y'all have a great rest of the Easter weekend, and I look forward to seeing everyone at our games soon.
Hook 'em!
