No. 7 Baseball cruises to 10-4 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff

AUSTIN, Texas -- Russell Moldenhauer equaled career highs for hits (3) and RBI (4) to lead No. 7 Texas to a 10-4 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in collegiate baseball action Saturday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Moldenhauer went 3-for-3 with one home run and four RBI on the afternoon.
Texas (39-14) pounced early with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jordan Danks hit a ground-rule double over the rightfield wall and Kyle Russell drew a walk to lead off the game. Chance Wheeless laid down a bunt single and a throwing error on the play allowed Danks to score and put runners at second and third. Bradley Suttle hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Russell and Moldenhauer singled up the middle to push Wheeless across, staking Texas to a 3-0 lead.
The Longhorns tacked on five more runs in the third inning. Russell doubled to the gap in right centerfield, Wheeless drew a walk and Suttle was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Preston Clark drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Russell. Moldenhauer plated Wheeless with a sacrifice fly. An error on a ground ball by Chais Fuller allowed Suttle to score. A single up the middle by Travis Tucker plated two more, inflating the cushion to 8-0.
Moldenhauer hit his fifth home run of the season in the fifth inning, a moon shot over the right field fence giving UT a 9-0 advantage.
Texas scored its final run of the game in the sixth. Suttle drew a walk and Clark was hit by a pitch, setting up an RBI single by Moldenhauer.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (16-28) scored all four of its runs off reliever Josh Prince in the seventh inning. Marcus Rodgers drew a lead-off walk. With one out, the Golden Lions loaded the basses with a walk by Ernest Horton and a single to the pitcher by Jeremy Davis. UAPB broke the scoring seal when Reggie Barker hit an infield single to push Rodgers across. The second run scored on an RBI groundout by Andrew Bergeron. Jerome McCullum capped the rally with a two-run single up the middle, trimming the lead to 10-4
The Longhorns' three weekend starters all pitched two scoreless innings. James Russell scattered one hit and one walk while striking out three. Adrian Alaniz yielded one hit and fanned two. Austin Wood allowed three hits and one walk with two strikeouts. Joseph Krebs pitched 1.1 hitless innings, fanning two. Randy Boone retired all three batters he faced in the ninth inning, including one strikeout.
Bubba Tuggle (1-8) was saddled with the loss for the Golden Lions. He allowed eight runs, six earned, on five hits and three walks over 2.1 innings.
Texas returns to action Friday with the Longhorns traveling to College Station for a 6:30 p.m. contest at Texas A&M. The first game of the State Farm Lone Star Showdown will be played in College Station and the second two games will be played Saturday and Sunday in Austin.
