Baseball’s Higgins inks contract with Philadelphia Phillies

Left-hander made 11 appearances in lone campaign on The Forty Acres
AUSTIN, Texas — Upon completion of the 2026 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, University of Texas graduate student Cal Higgins signed a professional contract with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.
Higgins follows Carson Tinney (second round), Aiden Robbins (third round), Ruger Riojas (third round), Thomas Burns (eighth round), Luke Harrison (eighth round) and Cody Howard (13th round), as Longhorns to garner interest from MLB organizations this year.
In his lone campaign in burnt orange, Higgins notched a 1-1 ledger and 5.56 ERA across 11 appearances.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound left-hander recorded 16 strikeouts over 11 1/3 innings.
A native of Kearney, Neb., Higgins arrived on The Forty Acres after three years at Western Kentucky. Higgins spent his freshman season at Iowa Western.
