Men's Swimming and Diving trio named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas senior Tyler O'Halloran, junior Matt McGinnis and sophomore Michael Klueh were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Men's At-Large Team, as announced Thursday by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). All three Longhorn swimmers were selected to the second team.
O'Halloran ended his career as the second fastest 100-yard breaststroke swimmer in UT history. He completed his eligibility as an 11-time first team All-American, seven-time Big 12 champion and 19-time All-Big 12 honoree. He co-owns the school record in the 200 freestyle relay.
He placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke, second in the 400 medley relay and fifth in the 200 freestyle relay at the 2007 NCAA Championships. A two-time first team Academic All-Big 12 selection and member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, O'Halloran holds a 3.34 grade-point average in journalism.
McGinnis placed seventh in the 500 freestyle, fourth in the 800 freestyle relay and fifth in the 400 freestyle relay at the 2007 NCAA Championships to earn first team All-America honors. An honorable mention All-America in the 200 freestyle (9th place) and the 100 freestyle (11th place), McGinnis set a new Big 12 meet record by clocking 1:34.37 in the 200 freestyle while also winning the 800 freestyle relay at the 2007 Big 12 Championships.
A two-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree and member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, McGinnis holds a 3.67 grade-point average in radio-television-film.
Klueh is a six-time All-American and two-time honorable mention All-American. A seven-time Big 12 Champion, Klueh set new meet records in the 400 individual medley and the 1,650 freestyle and also won the 500 freestyle and 800 freestyle relay titles at the 2007 Big 12 Championships.
A member of the U.S. World University Games team, Klueh is a first team Academic All-Big 12 selection. He holds a 3.44 grade-point average in kinesiology.
District VI includes all NCAA Division I schools in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and New Mexico. The At-Large category includes student-athletes in fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
To be nominated for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. Student-athletes must reach sophomore athletic and academic standings at their current institution to be eligible.
