AUSTIN, Texas -- Jordan Danks has played in six exhibition games for the Team USA, scoring six runs and adding a pair of stolen bases to help lead the team to a 5-1 mark. The squad opens up international play Friday with a five-game series against Chinese Taipei. The series opens up with two games in Burlington, N.C., before moving on to Cary, N.C.
Texas has five players on rosters in the Cape Cod Baseball League, including Russell Moldenhauer and Bradley Suttle with the Wareham Gatemen, Hunter Harris and Austin Wood with the Hyannis Mets and Keith Shinaberry with the Brewster Whitecaps.
Moldenhauer has played in 10 games and Suttle has yet to appear in a contest for the Gatemen. Harris has pitched 4.1 scoreless innings while Wood is 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA in two starts for the Mets. Shinaberry is 2-0 with one save and a 0.00 ERA in six relief appearances for the Whitecaps.
Outfielders Kyle Lusson and Clint Stubbs are performing well for the Beatrice Bruins of the M.I.N.K. League. Lusson is hitting .310 with nine runs and 14 RBI in 16 games. Stubbs is batting .275 with six runs and four stolen bases. The Bruins are in first place in the M.I.N.K. with an 11-4 record.
Drew Bishop has been a standout in the bullpen for the Santa Barbara Foresters of the California Collegiate League with a 1-0 record and two saves. He has yet to give up a run in six innings of work. Kyle Russell may join the roster of the Foresters as the summer progresses.
The Longhorns have a bevy of players starring in the Texas Collegiate League. Todd Gilfillan, Pat McCrory, Travis Tucker and Kyle Walker are all on the Coppell Copperheads. Andy Reese and Blake Williams are pitching for the Colleyville Lone Stars and Alex Posey and Juston Street are pitching for the Denton Outlaws.
Gilfillan is hitting .455 (5-of-11) with one RBI in three games. Tucker is batting .267 (4-of-15) with two home runs and four RBI in five games. Walker is 1-1 with 18 strikeouts in 16.2 innings. McCrory is has two saves in two appearances on the mound and is hitting .333 (4-of-12) with two RBI in four games.
Reese and Williams have each pitched five innings for Colleyville. Reese is 0-1 with four strikeouts in four appearances and Williams is 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA in three games.
Posey is 0-1 in two starts and Street is 1-1 in four relief appearances for Denton.
