RIO de JANEIRO -- Former University of Texas All-America diver Troy Dumais captured gold in the three-meter synchronized diving event for Team USA Wednesday afternoon at the 2007 Pan American Games.
Dumais, who trains in Austin under UT head diving coach and USA assistant diving coach Matt Scoggin, took top honors alongside Mitch Richeson with a final score of 422.52. Cuba's Erick Fornaris and Jorge Betancourt took the silver at 407.10, while Canada's Alexandre Despatie and Arturo Miranda claimed the bronze at 401.49.
A two-time U.S. Olympian, Dumais was a seven-time NCAA diving champion at Texas from 1999-2002. He is the second current or former Longhorn to win gold this week at the Pan American Games. Rising sophomore swimmer Ricky Berens (Charlotte, N.C.) helped Team USA to gold in the 400-meter medley relay on Sunday, July 22.
