Men's Tennis signee Damico earns U.S. Open wild card berth

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- University of Texas men's tennis signee Kellen Damico secured a main draw doubles berth in the U.S. Open on Saturday, Aug. 11 by winning the doubles event at the USTA Boys' 18 National Championships.
Damico and doubles partner Nate Schnugg entered the event as the top seed and made a dominant title run, which culminated with a 7-5, 6-3 win over the fifth-seeded tandem of Tyler Hochwalt and Michael McClune.
As a result, Damico and Schnugg, who captured the boys' doubles title at the 2006 Wimbledon Junior Championships, earned a wild card berth into the men's doubles draw at the upcoming U.S. Open, which kicks off on Monday, Aug. 27 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
Diaz Barriga Completes Run at World University Games
UT rising senior Luis Diaz Barriga's run at the 2007 World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand ended with a loss in the doubles round of 16.
Diaz Barriga (Cordoba, Mexico) and doubles partner Jose Lechuga teamed up for a 6-1, 6-2 round-of-32 win over Whitney McFarlane and Louis Taylor of the U.S. Virgin Islands before suffering a 6-4, 7-5 defeat to Chinese Taipei's Hsin-han Lee and Chu-huan Yi in the round of 16.
