The Longhorns challenged Nicolai six times in the second half after taking only three shots in the opening period. Three of the Longhorns' second-period attempts came within a span of five minutes. Texas also had a strong run with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Redshirt sophomore Stephanie Gibson (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada) served the ball inside the UA six-yard box. The ball bounced off NSCAA All-American senior Kelsey Carpenter (Allen, Texas) before sophomore Emily Anderson (Austin, Texas) took the shot. The attempt was saved by Wildcat goalkeeper Nicolai.
The Longhorns return home for the next six consecutive matches, beginning with a game against UT-San Antonio on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. (Central) at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
NOTES: Texas has started the six seasons with a 3-1-0 record. UT opened with three wins in four matches in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007.
POSTGAME QUOTE
TEXAS HEAD COACH Chris Petrucelli
On UT's play against Arizona: We played poorly and put ourselves in a difficult situation by giving up the early goal. We made it hard on ourselves. We had chances in the second half to score but overall we weren't that dangerous. We weren't very good in the back and we couldn't keep possession.
