Men's Tennis advances five in singles at ITA South Central Regional Championship

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas advanced five players through the singles round of 64 and tallied three doubles victories on the opening day of action Saturday at the ITA South Central Regional Championships.
Junior Josh Zavala opened with a 6-0, 6-2 win over TCU's Casey Powers in the round of 128 before knocking off Rice's Tobias Scheil by a 6-3, 7-5 count in the round of 64. Senior Jonah Kane-West added a 7-6, 6-4 win over Texas A&M's Colin Hoover in the round of 64.
Seventh-seeded UT junior Olivier Sajous knocked off A&M's Marcus Lunt, 6-4, 6-3, and top-seeded junior All-American Dimitar Kutrovsky scored a 6-3, 6-2 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's David Pace. Fourth-seeded sophomore Ed Corrie tallied a 6-4, 6-4 win over Rice's Chong Wang. The Horns later added three wins in the opening round of the doubles draw.
Play continues Sunday at the ITA South Central Regional Championship at Texas A&M's Mitchell Tennis Center.
