Laughlin wins pole vault for Women's Track and Field at Houston Indoor Invitational

HOUSTON -- Senior Ashley Laughlin won the pole vault and sophomore Jordyn Brown finished third in the weight throw on the first day of the Houston Indoor Invitational at Yeoman Field House.
Laughlin, one of two competitors for the 16th-ranked Texas women¹s track and field team, equaled her season-best and NCAA provisional qualifying height in winning the pole vault. The Marble Falls, Texas native cleared 12-11.5 (3.95m) on her final attempt to win her second pole vault crown of the season. Laughlin also claimed the event with the same height at the Houston Indoor Opener on Jan. 12.
Brown (Mesquite, Texas) finished third in the first weight throw competition of her two-year career. She tossed 52-6.5 (16.01m) on her fourth trip to the pit in her six-attempt series.
Brown and Laughlin join the rest of the Longhorns in action tomorrow morning. The field events begin with the shot put at 9 a.m. CT. The running events start at 10 a.m. CT with the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles.
