BOSTON -- In capturing the high jump championship at the 2008 U.S. Track and Field Championships, Texas ex Andra Manson earned a trip to Spain to compete in the 2008 International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) World Indoor Championships from March 7-9 in Valencia, Spain. Manson joins current Longhorn heptathlete Donovan Kilmartin as U.S. representatives at the 2008.
Manson (Brenham, Texas) cleared a season-best 7-6.5 in Saturday's win at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston on Saturday. The two-time NCAA champion in his first year as a professional earned the automatic spot on the national team. The win marks the second of the season as Manson jumped 7-2.25 (2.19m) to win at Houston on Jan. 18.
Kilmartin (Eagle, Idaho) is headed to Spain with one of the top point totals in the heptathlon in the world in 2008. Kilmartin, a three-time NCAA champion and two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, won the 2008 United Heritage Invitational in Nampa, Idaho on Feb. 2 behind a season-best 6,008 points. Kilmartin has one remaining season of outdoor eligibility after redshirting the 2007 season to complete his undergraduate coursework.
The U.S. senior championships, the final stop in the 2008 Visa Championship Track and Field Series, will air on ESPN2 from 4-6 p.m. CT on Sunday, Feb. 24.
