No. 14 Baseball falls to No. 15 Rice, 10-4

HOUSTON -- The No. 14 Texas Longhorns lost to No. 15 Rice in collegiate baseball action Saturday evening at the Houston College Classic.
Texas committed five errors in a game for the first time since April 9, 2006 to lose in uncharacteristic fashion.
The Texas offense was led by Kyle Russell and Cameron Rupp who both went 2-for-4 at the plate. Russell had two doubles and scored a pair of runs. Rupp hit a double and drove in a run. David Hernandez hit his first career home run, a solo shot in the second inning.
Chad Mozingo and Jimmy Comerota each had three hits to lead Rice. Mozingo had one home runs and scored two runs. Comerota hit drove in a run and scored a run. Rick Hague went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs and two RBI.
Kenn Kasparek (1-1) was saddled with the loss for Texas. He allowed five runs on seven hits while striking out six over 3.1 innings. Kasparek, who is returning after missing the entire 2007 season, allowed three home runs in a game for the first time in his career. As a freshman in 2005, he allowed just three home runs in 73 innings.
Chris Kelley (1-1) earned the win in relief for Rice. He scattered three hits and two walks over 4.2 innings to allow just one run while striking out four.
Texas wraps up action at the Houston College Classic on Sunday with a 6 p.m. game against the University of Houston.
