COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Two University of Texas volleyball signees for the 2008-09 academic year have been named to the 19-member 2008 U.S. Women's Junior National Volleyball Training Team. Michelle Kocher, a 5-10 setter from Wheaton, Ill., and Amber Roberson, a 6-3 outside hitter from San Antonio, Texas, will compete for one of the 12 spots on the U.S. Women's Junior National Team that will represent USA Volleyball at the NORCECA Continental Championship held July 22-27 at Saltillo, Mexico.
Kocher is a four-year starter for Illinois state power St. Francis and plays club volleyball for Mizuno Sports Performance Elite. Kocher led her 2006 state championship squad to a 41-2 record and a Top 10 national ranking.
Roberson attends Wagner High School and plays for former Longhorn and four-time All-American Demetria Sance Padgitt. In 2007, Roberson earned Texas Girls Coaches Association unanimous All-State honors after recording 554 kills and 322 digs. The two-time 26-5A All-District First Team selection plays club volleyball for the 18 Kaepa Alamo Volleyball club.
The team will be led by head coach Paula Weishoff-Hanold, a two-time Olympic medalist as a member of the USA Women's National Team and current head coach at Concordia Irvine in California. UCLA assistant head coach Kim Jagd and Texas A&M associate head coach John Corbelli will serve as assistant coaches.
The training team will train July 8-19 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
